In October of 1965 Rev. Warren Pechman came to Sumner with his family to do what he had done once before: gather people into a Lutheran mission congregation. After an extensive area survey, a meeting of interested persons was held on January 6, 1965. Four days later, 113 people attended the first worship service in Maple Lawn School.
